Far Out Charters fishing

Lakes Entrance

Northern Pacific bluefin tuna has stolen the show in Lakes Entrance, with impressive fish being caught offshore on a range of skirted lures. Heading out by boat or booking a local fishing charter offers a great opportunity to get amongst the action and target a trophy tuna.

Gummy sharks are also on the chew, with 90 Mile Beach producing quality catches for land-based fishos. Fresh, oily baits are proving effective, while salmon are holding in the deeper beach gutters. Try casting metal slugs to locate the schools.

Lake Tyers

The sand banks are producing good-sized flathead, with peeled local prawns and soft plastics proving effective. Bream are throughout the main lake and up into Nowa Nowa Arm, while tailor are also active across the lake system.

Mitchell River

Around the river mouth, The Cut and the Grassy Banks for bream with live crab, and sandworm.

Tambo River

Bream have been active around the Cliffs, Blue Hole and the willows at Lucerne Paddock. It’s also worth having a flick around Log Hole and the Upper Tambo, give soft shell, cut crab and local prawn, with soft plastics a go.

Nicholson River

Bream are worth targeting from the Swimming Hole downstream towards the river mouth, as well as around Thumb Point, and the stretches between the two bridges and the Reed beds, with cut crab and local worms, soft plastics are also worth trying.

Paynesville/Holland’s Landing

Whiting are around the back of the islands, with local sandworm and pipis producing good results. For bream, try around the jetties and structure. There’s also a chance of picking up a tailor, so have some pilchards or whitebait handy, or try flicking a few soft plastics around bait schools, particularly early morning and late afternoon.

Metung

Whiting are on the go around Shaving Point, with pipis, mussels and local worms the pick of the baits. Chinaman’s Creek and the Boardwalk are also worth a look for a few fish.

Marlo

Salmon are still being caught in the lake, around the entrance and off the beach, while luderick and bream have been a little harder to find. Local sandworm is the preferred bait, although supplies are currently limited.

Bemm River

The lake is a good spot to target bream, with local prawn, crab and soft plastics all worth trying. For salmon, head to the channels and cast a few lures, particularly where fish are actively feeding.

Mallacoota

Gypsy Point for tailor and the odd bream.

High Country

The upper Tambo, Mitta Mitta, and Cobungra rivers are fishing exceptionally well for wild trout on minnows, spinners, and dry-and-dropper rigs.

Please check weather conditions and prepare for any sudden changes before you venture into the High Country.
