Cape Conran
Just twenty five minutes away, the road narrows, and the wilderness takes over. Cape Conran is a coastal sanctuary brimming with raw, untamed beauty.
Wander barefoot on golden beach sands and explore the Salmon Rocks—rock formations sculpted by time and tide. As you enjoy the scenery, keep an eye out for sea eagles soaring overhead and the occasional whale during migration season (May–October) and during low tide, check out the rock pools and look for marine life like crabs and sea stars.
Tucked away in a quiet corner of the estuary, find the remains of the old Joiner family homestead, with carved cray pots and the remnants of local history at Joiner’s Channel. At West cape, you will see the dramatic cliffs that rise sharply above the ocean, offering wild and dramatic views of the Southern Ocean.
Finally, take Cape Conran Nature Trail & Boardwalk, a short, 600m loop that takes less than half an hour to complete. This short walk takes you through windswept banksia woodlands and coastal heath, offering breathtaking glimpses of kangaroos, wildflowers in bloom, and distant ocean views. Perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy a scenic coastal walk without too much effort. The boardwalk portion crosses through coastal wetlands, where you might spot wetland birds and hear the rustling of coastal grasses. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the landscape without a long, strenuous hike.
On the way to Cape Conran, Sailors Grave Brewing—a farmhouse brewery nestled in the dunes between Marlo and the coast—serves craft beers and local fare in a relaxed, coastal setting.
