East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Gone Fishing

Catching that illusive big one is very probable in East Gippsland's plentiful waterways. Wet a line from the shore, a jetty, surf beach or riverbank.

BYO boat and East Gippsland will supply easy access boat ramps, jetties, fish cleaning and weighing stations.

Don't have your own boat? No worries, East Gippsland offers fishing charters for offshore angling and in our impressive Lakes and river systems. Boat Hire is yet another option to ensure your visit to East Gippsland involves catching a fish.

Some of the aquatic delicacies local to the area include bream, mullet, flathead and seasonal prawns in the Lakes and River systems.  Trout can be caught by fly fishing the Alpine streams.

With the waves rolling over your toes along the Ninety Mile Beach, you may be lucky enough to reel in a Salmon, Tailor, flathead or Gummy Shark. Marlin, snapper and tuna are big game tickets offshore.

If all else fails, our local fish and chip shops are world class, or you may have to return for the one that got away.
