East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Head to the high country

High country cattlemen, farming stations and true blue hospitality is what you will come across in this hidden spot standing high in the Great Dividing Range.

Entering the region via the Great Alpine Road sets the picturesque scene of only the highest quality panoramic vistas and breath of crisp mountain air. Laced in history from gold mining to cattle grazing, the area is now a popular destination for 4wd-ing, stream fishing, mountain biking and white water rafting. So go on, find your inner scout and walk amongst the wilderness, seek historic huts, jump crystal clear rivers or ride high in the saddle. See the stars shining bright in the cold night air. This is the High Country.
