East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Snowy River

From the Snowy Mountains to the sea, you will find a piece of this river that moves you. Starting up in the heart of the high country amongst the native bush landscapes, the river weaves you past some stunningly remote camping grounds and 4wd tracks. McKillops Bridge is a popular sight to see and experienced kayakers find the terrain around here challenging but oh so rewarding. Around Orbost, rich farmland opens onto flats filled with dairy cows and cute farms dot along the roadside. The mighty Snowy concludes at the seaside town of Marlo. The relaxed village accommodates many fisher-folk and water enthusiasts for its great range of water-based fun on hand.
