East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Buchan Caves Reserve

The main event, the Buchan caves are no doubt a spectacular attribute to this reserve, but there is much more. Buchan Caves Reserve on Krauatungalung Country, is highly significant to Gunaikurnai Traditional Owners due to its remarkable Aboriginal cultural heritage.  Bringing a rich background to this picturesque, tree lined area along the banks of the Buchan River. You can come for a day for a cave tour, stroll along the beautiful walking tracks with scenic vantage points or camp with the resident kangaroos in the campground.

Buchan Caves Reserve is where you can enjoy a guided tour through the limestone caves, a picnic, a walk and take in the flora and fauna of the region. Visit Parks Victoria's website to book a guided tour of Buchan Caves - a honeycomb of spectacular limestone formations carved by an underground river almost 400 million years ago
