East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

What better way to spend a hot summer's day than cooling off with a splash. Swimming is no doubt one of the most popular choices here in East Gippsland with an abundance of options on hand. Try out one of the upstream rivers where the waters flow calmly along the banks, perfect for lilos. Head lakeside to Eagle Point or Tambo Bay on the hunt for shallow, sandy sections. Paynesville and Raymond Island offer beautiful swimming beaches and the ocean is patrolled in Summer at both Main Beach and Eastern Beach in Lakes Entrance and Bastion Point at Mallacoota

Add some excitement to the day with a visit to Lakes Entrance Aqua Park a new attraction to Cunningham Arm foreshore. For the smaller members of the family head to Metung Water Park, with splashing jets and fountains, the water play park will keep them wanting to come back time and time again.

Local swimming pools include the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre which incorporates a fun, modern splash and play zone. The Lakes Entrance Aquadome and Bairnsdale outdoor pools along with the Orbost outdoor pool are further options for those looking to lap up some aquatic time.

Always be sure to practice safe swimming.
