Victoria’s fastest mountain bikers are set to descend on Mt Taylor this December!

Get ready to witness the best downhill mountain bikers from Victoria racing down the Mt Taylor Downhill track in Round 2 of the 2023/24 Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series this December. Three hundred competitors from across Victoria and interstate will converge to compete in this technically demanding and fast-paced event, last held at Mt Taylor in 2016. Riders of all skill levels, from age 12 to the Super Masters 50+, will participate.

On Saturday, riders will practice and familiarise themselves with the race track before the official races commence on Sunday morning at 11:30 am. Sunday afternoon promises excitement as two of the state's fastest juniors, Hudson Tarling and Bailey Telfer, take on their home track in the highly competitive under-nineteens category.

The race follows a time trial format, with riders starting at 30-second intervals, aiming to complete the course in the quickest time possible. Spectators will have access to multiple track locations, with the famous “Cabbage Patch” rock garden offering one of the best vantage points on the course.

The local club, Mountain Biking East Gippsland, will host the event and has been hard at work modernising the race track in preparation. The club is enthusiastic about bringing high-level racing back to Mt Taylor and hopes that many of their rapidly growing list of junior riders will have the opportunity to compete at a state level event right in their own community.

With the countdown to this event underway, many local riders are fully engaged in their preparations for the race on their home track. A number of local riders are expected to participate in the event, with the majority competing in their first state-level competition.
