The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally and Maritime Festival returns in 2026 with a vibrant weekend of maritime heritage, classic vessels and community celebration on the beautiful Gippsland Lakes. This free, family-friendly event highlights the boats, people and stories that have shaped the region.
A major highlight is the arrival of the tall ship Enterprize, offering visitors a rare chance to see a square-rigged ship under sail and to book voyages throughout the weekend. Enterprize will join hundreds of classic boats in the spectacular Grand Parade along McMillan Strait, followed by the traditional Parade of Sail featuring classic yachts.
The on-water program includes the Bowie Medling Bang & Return fishing boat challenge, a regatta for classic dinghies, demonstrations by Dragon Boat clubs, St Ayles Skiff activities, and displays of restored wooden powerboats and speedboats.
Onshore, visitors can enjoy live music, buskers, maritime demonstrations, model boats, and the popular Quick and Dirty Boat Building Competition. New for 2026 is a Marine Speakers Forum with presentations on Burrunan dolphins, sea eagles, historic boats and life aboard cruising vessels. Rope-making demonstrations and children’s activities add to the family atmosphere.
Community groups, including the CFA, Coast Guard, and local boatbuilders and woodworkers, will also be involved.
The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally offers something for everyone who enjoys boats, wildlife or a great weekend by the water.
