The Mallacoota Flatty Classic returns this October, bringing three days of chasing flatheads on an estuary system that regularly tops the list of Australia’s best lure fishing destinations.
Mallacoota isn’t a town where fishing happens on the side. Boats sit in half the driveways, lure stickers cover the shop windows, and photos of enormous flathead hang on walls all over town. The Mallacoota Flatty Classic is built around that. You fish the lakes by day, then head to Scallywags Bar overlooking the main boat ramp, where the leaderboard ticks over, the day’s stories get retold with some generous embellishment, and tomorrow’s plans are made by people with no intention of being wrong.
Bring a serious tournament crew or a boatload of mates making a weekend of it. Either way, the motto holds: 50% fishing, 50% community building, 100% fun. Entries and full details on the Mallacoota Flatty Classic website.
