Michael Donnelly – Stories and Dreams

Exhibition and shows

Michael’s artwork includes a strong line of narrative works over three decades, drawing on personal experience, the Bible, film, dreams, life. Beginning with paintings from the 1990s this exhibition weaves together a diverse mix of stories and dreams across a landscape of expansive compositions.

Michael Donnelly is a Melbourne/East Gippsland-based artist whose practice spans figurative drawing and painting, portraiture, and landscape, exploring both religious and environmental themes. Since 1984, he has had numerous solo exhibitions across Melbourne, including at Brunswick Street Gallery, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Westspace. He has also exhibited widely in group and prize exhibitions, including the Blake Prize and the inaugural Michael Beazer Works on Paper Prize at East Gippsland Art Gallery. Alongside his arts practice, Michael has worked as an art educator, including with students with vision impairments. He currently works between studios in Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country and Lake Tyers Beach on Gunai Kurnai Country, and is an active member of the Uniting Church communities in Ashburton and Lakes Entrance.
