Events

East Gippsland boasts an exciting range of cycling activities. Bring your bike – or hire one here – and cycle through farmland, towering forests and coastal landscapes. From cycle trails such as the 90 km East Gippsland Rail Trail and the picturesque Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail, to three superb Mountain Bike Parks, to road cycling routes and cycling events there is much on offer for you to experience.

 

Cycle Trails

East Gippsland offers some superb cycling trails.

On the East Gippsland Rail Trail  extending almost 100 kms from Bairnsdale toOrbost you can cycle your way across our beautiful region. The Rail Trail traverses picturesque rural scenery and takes you into the East Gippsland forests. Either connecting with or passing through friendly rural towns such as Nicholson,Bruthen and Nowa Nowa you're sure to find refreshment and accommodation options along the way.

By exploring the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail that links the Rail Trail to Lakes Entrance and the magnificent Gippsland Lakes you're sure to see some of the very best of East Gippsland. Download the brochure here.

Mountain Biking

Get on your bike and shred the 3 sets of great Mountain Bike Parks on offer in East Gippsland.

The Colquhoun Mountain Bike Park just west of Lakes Entrance has both a cross country track and pump track. Download the map here.

The Mt Taylor Mountain Bike Park not far out of Bairnsdale has great tracks and has hosted Victorian championship titles. DH track starts off Tower Rd just below the communications tower. The Nowa Nowa Mountain Bike Park has 35km of trails, 20km of mountain bike trails and 15km of dual purpose tracks for walking and cycling. This bike park is family friendly for children above 6yrs of age. Download the map here.

Road Cycling

The pleasure of taking your cycle to the road here in East Gippsland is all about great routes along country roads with superb rural views.

Make picturesque Bairnsdale your base and ride out to explore Lindenow and the fertile Mitchell River Flats returning through Flaggy Creek and Wy Yung. Or head towards the Gippsland Lakes and Paynesville and Raymond Island visiting the wonder of the Mitchell River Silt Jetties.

Family Cycling

What a better way to have fun with the kids and enjoy the spectacular views in East Gippsland, than to take a family bike ride. With so many areas available to enjoy the outdoor on bike with the family you are sure to find a ride to suit.

In Lakes Entrance, you can enjoy the Foreshore Cycling Track while enjoying the view of the fishing trawler fleet. Paynesville has theSunset Cove Walking/Bike Track which runs along the water and is a great ride for children 6 or older. Bairnsdale has the Mitchell River Walking/Bike Track which runs along the beautiful Mitchell River.

The East Gippsland Rail Trail can also be a wonderful place to ride with the family.
