Horse Riding

East Gippsland is an ideal place to explore on horseback with vast areas of magnificent natural environment and the well-worn tracks of mountain cattlemen. There is plenty of variety for riders of all abilities. Follow the leader in a group or bring your own horse to gallop through the high country or explore authorised areas of the stunning East Gippsland coast.

Introduce yourself to horse riding on an organised trail ride or, if you prefer to sit back and watch, take in one of the regular rodeos or camp drafts held in the area.

Motorcycling

From the great twists and turns of the Great Alpine Road to the cool coastal drives, there is a great road trip ahead for any motor cycle enthusiast who visits East Gippsland.

With the wind in your face and fantastic scenery all around, your two wheel experience has just begun. Replenish in small country towns with a drink or meal and then continue on your exploration of the back roads and lanes.

Motorbike riders should be aware of log trucks, caravans and boats on trailers as a regular traffic occurrence. If planning a trip to the Great Alpine Road in cooler months please check the weather conditions, you don’t want to ride into gale force winds, snow or ice. For more information pick up the Ultimate Rides brochure from local Visitor Information Centres.

Buchan Caves

Visit the underground splendour of stalactites and stalagmites in the Buchan Caves. A world of colour and enchantment below, you will marvel at the formations and maze of caves. Dating back over 300 million years, ancient

rivers flowing and seeping through limestone rock formed the Caves. Europeans first explored them in the early 1900’s.

The Fairy Cave presents a visual tapestry of rich limestone shapes and Royal Cave is noted for the calcite-rimmed pools. The Caves are fully lit with walkways. Guided tours are conducted daily in both. Tours to ‘wild’ caves can also be arranged for small groups. Stay right at the Caves Reserve above ground. Camp or stay in Cabins, or try the Wilderness Retreats for a mix of both. Wildlife like kangaroos, bellbirds & lyrebirds are commonly seen within the reserve.
